BARE MINIMUM "Can't cure the nailbiters"

BARE MINIMUM \"Can\'t cure the nailbiters\"
Pop deconstructionists Bare Minimum were formed in the Bay Area in 1991 by singer/guitarist Brian Speckman and guitarist Mark Pinkos. Upon moving to Seattle a short time later, they were joined by bassist Anthony Champa and drummer Joe Plummer; their eponymously titled debut LP appeared on the Rx Remedy in 1995, followed later that same year by a single on Sub Pop. After the 1996 EP Night We Streak, Bare Minimum returned in 1998 with Can't Cure the Nailbiters. While more refined and accessible than their self-titled debut, Bare Minimum's sophomore outing is still a dense and difficult record; Brian Speckman and Mark Pinkos -- credited with left and right guitar, respectively -- together create a mighty racket, with the Branca-esque dynamics of their twin attack employing intricate rhythmic patterns and thick, atonal chord structures to forge an amorphous yet strangely taut post-rock sound.
