bestial unholy Black/Death Metal in the blasphemous and impure tradition of PROFANATICA, BLASPHEMY, NECROVORE, early POSSESSED! "Crippled Messiah" is definitely heavy. It's a muddy, filthy mess of Profanatica guitars and barely coherent drumming erupting in short, stuttering blasts before collapsing back into pastoral interludes and death doom requiems (the last minute or so of "Nails and Hammer" is brilliant). The sound is raw and dirty, but with heft and mass much closer to old war metal bands like Bestial Warlust and Blasphemy, or older American NYDM bands like Incantation, Baphomet and Immolation, than to modern raw black metal. This isn't too much different in sound from the new crop of dark death metal bands like Father Befouled, Grave Miasma and Chile's Godless. It's interesting enough that even after many, many listens the songs still reveal things previously unnoticed and unheard. Witch Tomb know exactly what they are doing and they do it really well. This is far better than the last few releases from Profanatica, Havohej and deserves a listen if like me, you've been cranking Onward to Golgotha for the last seventeen years!!
