SLAUGHTERDAY "Laws of the occult"
[CD]

SLAUGHTERDAY \"Laws of the occult\"
Taking their name from the Autopsy track from Severed Survival, Slaughterday have dropped their second album with Laws of the Occult, opting to continue their onslaught of appropriately Autopsy influenced death metal. Doom laden passages and more fast paced sections intertwine, transitioning effortlessly, sometimes broken up with melodic solos or dive bombs. These Catchy refrains also feature heavily throughout this album, like on Torn by the Beast, with a doomy announcement of one?s fate: ?Toooorn to shreds, by the beast?. Another strong example of doomy refrain work is on the track, Eyes that Never Shut, as well as the ending faster refrain in the ending track, Plunging to Megadeath. Forbidden Wisdom?s lyrics of ?Necromantic ways, bringers of decay, gateways to beyond?? flow absurdly well with the slow, doom instrumentals lying underneath, and with the growing unearthly vocals, this passage conceives an appriately occult feeling. The riffwork throughout Laws of the Occult is solid, each track giving off a unique feel while fitting into that Autopsy styled death; Forbidden Wisdom?s more Lovecraftian occult riffs give off a different vibe to the more nuclear wasteland, rapid fire of the ending track?s riff delivery. This style of album needs that minor level of track uniqueness to get one to keep coming back to it, particularly with the refrains and riffs. Laws of the Occult might not be much of a progression from the Autopsy slabs of death that Slaughterday are influenced by, but the song writing is amazing and the band have managed to create an appropriately filthy album here.
