BULLDOZER "Alive...in Poland"
[CD digipack]

BULLDOZER \"Alive...in Poland\"
Probably the biggest thrash band to come out of Italy in the 1980s, Bulldozer never made much of a name for themselves in the United States, but they built and maintained a solid cult audience in Europe, which explains the Polish label Metal Mind's interest in the band, reissuing each of their first four albums individually, assembling a lavish box set, and now reissuing this 1990 live disc. As their name might hint, Bulldozer was not a subtle band. A power trio with a bassist who occasionally injected keyboards into the mix, they were heavily indebted to Mot?rhead (whose "Overkill" is covered here, almost faster than the original) and Venom. The 11 tracks on this disc come from the band's The Final Separation, IX, and Neurodeliri albums, and all are delivered in a headlong roar with the exception of the somewhat atmospheric "IX" intro and "The Final Separation," which is as close as Bulldozer ever got to a tender ballad. The group exhibit a decent sense of humor, dedicating "Ilona the Very Best" to Ilona Staller, the porn star -- better known as Cicciolina -- who served in Italy's Parliament (it's one of two tributes to her in their catalog), and following it up with "Impotence." At one point, they engage in some call-and-response stage banter with the presumably almost all-Polish crowd, in a moment of ESL delirium. This is an essential album, a classic live and a must have for all thrash metal fans!
