"Prehuman? starts out on a very moody note, with what sounds like waves churning beneath the droning guitars and deep guttural bellowing, which transitions into an eerily melodic rhythm right after. It?s the perfect way to start things off and one truly feels a sense of desperation in these moments, and then restrained happiness when the track (?Baikal?) segues into upbeat riffs. Tremulous guitar structures that seem like they?re being stretched paper thin suddenly snap into bursts of speed or aggressive double bass beats, and then there are the groove laden riffs that recall ASPHYX, most notably on the last track, ?Ceremonial Swamp.? At just seven songs in composition but nearly 50 minutes in duration, ?Prehuman? will definitely have more than enough time to settle down into your brain for a while. ONIROPHAGUS has firmly established themselves as a rightful bearer to keep the Doom/Death torch proudly lit.
