One of four full-length compilations released in 2003 which would herald a burst of over-productivity each year that only started slowing down in 2011, "Nocturnal Emissions / Nyctophobia" contains two albums originally released on CD-R / demo format, though to look at the track listing, you might not think so as there are just eight tracks in total. First track "Nocturnal Emissions" is a 20-minute marathon with a 3-minute intro of misty hiss that could almost be mistaken for static. The songs are very slow and have Gothic and almost dramatic, even theatrical, elements that sometimes border perilously on kitsch. Production is very raw and primitive in sound and concept: raining storms of chainsaw guitar thrash constantly as a backdrop with the unusual result of pushing the rhythm section to the fore. The template for future Striborg albums was established with this album along with the others that were released in 2003 and Sin-Nanna, sole member of Striborg, has rarely deviated from it since.
